Plastic TBR7 Dirt Bike Handguards Are Trashed.

This post is about a dumb story, I was rolling my TaoTao TBR7 dirt bike motorcycle backward, my foot slipped, and the TBR7 motorcycle pulled away.

I didn’t have a good hold on the motorcycle, and the motorcycle fell. On impact, one of the plastic TBR7 dirt bike handguards were shattered.

Although I didn’t have a good grip to stop the fall, I did my best to brace the motorcycle for the impact. For such a low-energy impact, I cannot believe how badly one of the TBR7’s plastic hand guard shattered.

What Are Motorcycle Handguards For?

The obvious answer, to guard your hands.

Typically the protection offered is from brush and trees when off-roading. Other purposes also protect the hand controls(the brakes, the clutch, etc.). Nice convenience handguards also offer they act as a windbreak for the hands.

Dirt bike handguards have many functions, but the toughest seems to take impacts without failing. Since failing could result in hand/arm injuries to the rider.

What Happened To The Stock TBR7 Handguard?

It broke into several pieces.

When I put together the motorcycle, I thought to myself; these handguards look like nothing but oversized plastic spoons. Look at the design and material. Only metal parts were the fasteners.

I share much of my opinion here, and I want to tell you, the handguards I broke were the stock handguards for my TBR7 bike.

I paid for the TBR7 motorcycle myself, so my experience only influences my personal opinion. I want to share something positive about the TBR7’s plastic handguards.

Did I Like The TBR7 Dirt Bike Handguards?

They were straightforward to install.

The handguards came with few fasteners and easily covered the handlebar equipment, and shielded the wind from my hands. I was being easy to install helped build my experience level working on motorcycles.   

The TBR7 Plastic handguards went on easy and functioned well as a windbreak for my hands. It’s still wintertime and cold out when I first bought my my motorcycle.

To Handguard or Not Handguard, That Is The Dirt Bike Question.

I don’t use the TBR7 as a dirt bike, so at this time, I’m going to avoid getting handguards till I better research what products work best with the TBR7.

There is a possibility as the weather improves(get’s warmer), I will go off-road and will need decent handguards in the future. Dirt bike handguards are a rider protection device, so I hope I don’t overthink this process.
